Thinking of studying in Spain?
In this article we will discuss the different options that are available for those who would like to come to Spain as a student, and for those who have just graduated and would like to have residency in Spain.
The first question you have to ask yourself is – Do I want to study in Spain?
If the answer is YES!, then you need to apply for what many call a student visa, but really they are referring to an authorization to stay in the country as a student. This is not the same as residency, which will be an option after your studies.
The new norm says that now you can apply for this authorization from your home country or from Spain.
If you already have the authorization to study and you want to work, you need to apply for an authorization to work while studying.
Only those who are already studying in Spain can apply for this authorization.
Also, it is important to remember that if it gets approved, you can only work part time and the job must be related to your studies.
Also, both the student and work authorization will end at the same time.
Now let’s say you’ve finished studying, here are two of your residency options:
If you have finished your studies in Spain and want to stay here to look for job opportunities,:
You need to apply for a specific type of residency that allows you to look for a job. Only students who have have obtained a degree at undergraduate, postgraduate or doctorate level in Spain can apply.
If you did not obtain a degree in Spain and you would like to come live and work here:
You can apply for a specific type of residency to do an internship related to your studies. You can apply for this residency whether you obtained your degree in Spain or in your country of origin. The only requirement is that you completed your studies in the last 2 years and you have an internship offered to you.
Basically:
-Want to study in Spain: apply for authorization to stay in the country as a student (student visa).
-Are already a student in Spain and want to work: apply for authorization to work while studying.
Have already graduated?
-Graduated in Spain: You can apply for a residency that will allow you to look for a job. (1 year residency)
–Graduated in your home country: You can apply for the residency that will allow you to do an internship (must have job offer)
