Extension or Renewal of Student Visa
Within the 60 days prior to the expiration of your study stay authorization, you can apply for its renewal. To do this, you must continue to meet the requirements that led to the original grant, that is, having sufficient economic means, medical insurance, and no criminal record. Additionally, you must have completed the studies for which it was granted and be enrolled in the following course.
Can I renew after the deadline?
- You have a grace period of 90 days after expiration, but if you apply during this period, you expose yourself to the initiation of the corresponding sanctioning procedure.
- Before 60 days, it is not possible to renew; you must wait.
- After 90 days, from day 91, it will be inadmissible for being out of time.
- The deadlines are in days, not months, 60 days (not two months) and 90 days (not 3 months).
Denials of Extension
If my extension is denied, what options do I have?
Depending on the reason for the denial and your specific case, you will have the possibility to appeal the denial through a repossession appeal (within one month from the notification of the denial) or through the administrative litigation route (two months from the notification).
Another possibility is to return to your country of origin to reapply for the visa at the consulate. But between these two paths, again depending on the situation you find yourself in, there may be other ways for you to regularize your situation.
